At Metropolitan University, students are provided with the flexibility to personalise their academic pathway by selecting subjects that best support their educational and career goals. This approach is known as Elective Specialisations Model which is particularly beneficial for students whose previous academic background differs from the degree they intend to pursue. For example, a student may wish to study a Business Management degree but may previously have completed a Diploma in Information Technology. In such cases, there may be a gap between the student’s prior academic background and the requirements of the intended programme. To address this, the university offers a structured bridging approach. Students may select relevant modules from another discipline, such as Information Technology, and these modules are then academically integrated into the student’s chosen degree pathway. Through this process, the student can enrol in a specially designed bridging module, such as Advanced Information Technology for Business Management, which helps connect their existing technical knowledge with business concepts. This model allows students to transition smoothly between disciplines while strengthening their interdisciplinary knowledge. As a result, students are able to pursue their preferred degree without losing the value of their previous qualifications, while also gaining additional skills that enhance their employability.
Metropolitan University places a strong emphasis on academic and progression support, helping students prepare for their next stage of study or career. This includes guidance on developing professional CVs and LinkedIn profiles, as well as personalised advice on identifying and applying for suitable progression pathways. While Metropolitan University focuses on supporting students academically and strategically, internships and placement opportunities are typically facilitated through partner universities as part of their programmes, or through local employers via students’ own networks and partner organisations, allowing students to gain valuable practical experience alongside their academic journey.
